Organised by Uplift Laos, students from National University of Singapore (NUS) pharmacy faculty and National Technological University of Singapore (NTU) went to the Ban Houehing to build a staircase. The villagers can only access to other places via boat. With no proper pave way to the pier, the elderly are trapped in their tiny village as they are unable to climb up and down the steep route.
In addition, the NUS students distributed 10 boxes of clothes worth 100kg to the villagers on behalf of Singapore’s Lions Club Pearl Hill.
Other than working on the project, the students get to experience locals’ lifestyle as they stayed at the village. Some of the activities that they had done include preparing local cuisine using traditional cooking methods, sieving rice and making of brooms.
